The Co‑operative Group is perhaps the world's largest consumer co‑operative with over 2.5 million active members. But it is not the only consumer co‑operative in the United Kingdom. There are also some significant regionally based, independent, co‑operatives as well as many locally based co‑operatives and specialist consumer co‑operatives such as the Wine Society and the Phone Co‑op.
It is therefore possible to be a member of more than one co‑operative.
