Co‑operative Legal Structures
There are a number of types of co‑operative, and each can be set up using a variety of legal forms: this is because there isn't a single Co‑operatives Act in the UK, so co‑operatives tend to use other legislation to incorporate. Indeed, some choose not to incorporate at all, although this does remove the advantage of limited liability.
If you already know what type of co‑operative you want to be, you can view our list of Model Rules by clicking here.
For those that do wish to incorporate, you can download our Model Rule Selection Tool to help you decide.
This will identify which of our existing model rules might be most suitable for your co‑operative - however, we can also provide other models that aren't listed in the Selection Tool so please contact Legal Services if you need individual advice.
