About us

The Service User Training & Research Association (SUTRA) is a non profit making organisation run by long term users of health and social services. We provide training, research and facilitation for user and professional groups. Commissioners for our services up to now have included Goodmayes Hospital, Leytonstone Sure Start, North East London Mental Health Trust, South London & Maudsley Mental Health Trust, Outward Housing and Tower Hamlets Social Services, North East London Approved Social Worker Consortium, Voluntary Action Waltham Forest and Waltham Forest College, Drug and Alcohol Action Team, Housing Department and Primary Care Trust.

Aims & Objectives

SUTRA aims  " ...to bridge the gap between people who use and people who work in health, social and similar services by providing training and research led by service users....." , and achieves this by :

  • developing and co-ordinating a pool of accredited trainers researchers and facilitators of meetings and groups who have all had long term experience of using health and/or social services.
  • planning and delivering a range of training courses & workshops.
  • carrying out research, evaluations, monitoring and audits.
  • advising organisations seeking to consult or involve users of health and social services.
  • disseminating information to others through reports, conference presentations and publications; and
  • providing resources  and administrative support to facilitate delivery of above.
