Measuring Performance
As the apex organisation for co‑operation in the UK, Co‑operatives UK carefully monitors the collective commercial performance of the Co‑operative Movement. We maintain close links with the FSA, and publish our findings in the Co‑operative Review each year. However, as a membership organisation we also provide services to help our members monitor their own performance and the health of their society.
The first service we provide is an annual Performance Monitor, currently available to our large consumer co‑operative members. Each year we sent out a survey to their secretaries asking for specific commercial performance related information such as Return on Capital Employed and Pre-Tax Turnover. This information is processed in strictest confidence to produce a Performance Monitor for the directors of the society, helping them to judge their performance against a selected group of their peers. For more information about the Performance Monitor, please contact us here.
We also monitor our members performance against our Co‑operative, Environmental and Social Performance Indicators (or CESPIs). Each year, members are sent a spreadsheet asking for information against the 10 CESPIs which is then processed to produce a confidential CESPI Report, currently sent to directors as part of the Performance Monitor. The CESPIs have just been updated to allow any of our member societies to complete a return, helping them to judge their Corporate Social Responsibility practices against their closest peers.
