As an employee-owned worker co-operative, all employees have a right to membership, and therefore either collectively or democratically have a say in the governance of the organisation. For new employees, it is important for the worker co-operative to provide sufficient training and a thorough induction programme before becoming full members of the organisation.
To ensure that the process of training and induction is provided, the co-operative may consider making provisions within the governing document outlining the process for bringing new employee-members into the full membership of the co-operative. A co-operative may have a probationary period for new employees, during which adequate training and induction is provided to ensure the employee has sufficient knowledge of the governance and values of the organisation before being integrated into the decision-making processes of the co-operative. The probationary period may last from one to six months, and will depend on the size and type of co-operative, and the level of induction training required for new employees.
